In the world of Rockland County politics, Ed Day stands as a beacon of integrity and vision. Ed Day, born in 1951 in Brooklyn, began his journey in public service after graduating from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1968. He pursued higher education at Kingsborough Community College and Pace University while working full-time in the private sector. In 1979, he left a higher-paying job to join the New York City Police Department.
Ed's career in law enforcement spanned over two decades, rising from Patrol Officer to Commanding Officer of two Detective Squads in the Bronx, earning 40 citations for meritorious service. In 2003, as Chief of Detectives in Baltimore, he implemented reforms that improved investigation success rates by 50% and reduced costs.
Beyond politics, Ed has been dedicated to Rockland County. He coached youth sports, founded the Little Tor Neighborhood Association, and worked with local schools, including the PTA Child Personal Safety Course. He was honored with the Rockland County Distinguished Service Award in 2003.
In 2005, Ed ran for County Legislature and defeated the incumbent. Elected Rockland’s third County Executive in 2013, he eliminated the county’s deficit, introduced financial reforms, and prioritized public safety, achieving a significant turnaround in the county’s finances.
