Rockland’s Record-Low Unemployment Continues
One of the hallmarks of my administration has been to support smart economic growth and cultivate a bright, vibrant job market that allows our residents to work and be part of the wealth of our County.
I’m proud to share that hard work is paying off. We’ve consistently had the lowest unemployment rates for our region even hitting the record-breaking low of 2.1% in October, the lowest percentage in more than 30 years. This at a time when Fed action designed to curb inflation is supposed to increase unemployment!
In December 2022, the lowest unemployment rate within the region was once again recorded in Rockland County, and among the lowest in the entire State of New York:
- Rockland County 2.3 percent
- Putnam County 2.4 percent
- Dutchess County 2.5 percent
- Westchester County 2.5 percent
- Orange County 2.6 percent
- Ulster County 2.6 percent
- Sullivan County 2.8 percent
Our record-unemployment rates are a direct reflection of this administration’s achievements including increasing our total value of taxable real estate by $7.4 billion in five years, a 21% increase which ultimately brings good jobs to Rockland.
We’ve also worked hard to attract record-high investments of nearly $1 billion in the County, generating hundreds of good paying jobs.
Even now, we are building on these efforts by utilizing American Rescue Plan Act funds to support food pantries, restaurants, small businesses, and creating more green spaces.
Despite all we’ve accomplished, I pledge to ensure this administration continues working diligently to improve the lives of everyone who calls our beautiful County home.
For those who still fall into that 2.3% unemployment rate, I encourage you to check the openings within the County of Rockland on our website www.RocklandGov.com.
