Justice for Paula

Justice for Paula

Enough is enough! Once again, the memory of Paula Bohovesky has been desecrated by the New York State Parole Board. This is not the first time that the state parole board has slapped the people of New York, of Rockland County and Pearl River in the face, but it must be the last.

Robert McCain, the initial assailant of Paula Bohovesky, is a monster who does not deserve to walk free on our streets while our community still suffers from the loss and pain he caused. He committed murder, a crime of permanency, and should be permanently in jail.

Governor Cuomo needs to either immediately replace his parole board or resign himself. We must stop inflicting pain upon the families and friends of those who were victims. It is time to have a true system of justice in New York State, one that is victim-centric and not focused on coddling the criminal.

The Governor just declared by Executive Order that crime and violence are an emergency public health issue. Like the arsonist who sets a fire and then calls 911, he has created his own self-fulfilling prophecy. If you are so worried about crime, I tell you as a 25-year law enforcement professional, listen to those professionals. Don’t let murderous thugs back into our communities.

It is maddening enough that this Parole Board is allowing this unremorseful murderer to walk free, but can you imagine if, in the Board’s words, that during his effort to “reintegrate into the community,” he runs into Paula’s mom on Central Avenue in Pearl River? Just how sick is this?

Like his fellow released murderer Richard LaBarbera, McCain must be barred from setting foot in Rockland as a condition of his parole and must wear a GPS ankle monitor to ensure compliance. This is a monster who does not deserve to walk freely on our streets while our community still suffers from the loss and pain he caused.

I will be writing as Rockland County Executive to the New York State Parole Board and am asking each of you to join me by writing or by calling with these demands. It is the least we can do to support Lois, who has suffered these last nearly 40 years without her beautiful and talented daughter.

Here is the information you need when contacting the Parole Board:

I am making this very clear to the Governor and asking you to do the same. Do not feign concern for the victims of violence as your actions, and those answerable to you, are the true measure. You are not fooling anyone with your style of governance.

I am speaking for a community and a 16-year-old girl brutally taken from us. Do your job and fix this. If you cannot, then you must resign, as you have lost the support of decent people everywhere.
